AN invitation has been extended to people in Ludlow to enjoy a night out for the NHS.

The Two Score and Theatre Company will be performing Shakespeare in words and music in aid of the Shropshire Defend our NHS Group.

Members of the cast have spoken about why they feel that the NHS is so important.

“I am old enough to have heard first hand stories of people in poorer families dying because they were unable to afford a doctor,” said Susan Dowell.

The NHS is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Welfare State ushered in by Attlee’s post-war government and the hallmark of a decent and fair society.’

Another cast member Giles Emerson is especially concerned about the future of the midwife led maternity unit in Ludlow.

“All three of my daughters were born in Ludlow Hospital and mum and babies were all treated skilfully and wonderfully,” he said.

“The second child, Tashie, was an emergency; I had to rescue her mother from a motor way service station, where her labour had started a week early and bring her straight to the hospital to be born; the service was brilliant and desperately needed.”

People can see the show at Ludlow Brewery on Monday (July 3) at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Brewery or on the door.
