MOMENTS after performing in front of the Queen during the Royal Windsor Horse Show, a Kidderminster soldier proposed to his teenage sweetheart in a spectacular way.

A video shows 18-year-old Josh Bayliss, from the Household Cavalry, dismount his horse in full state uniform and go down on one knee to the accompaniment of lowered lances and a trumpet fanfare by his comrades of the Household Cavalry Musical Ride.

Josh knew he was going to propose to his school sweetheart, Demi Scotto-Rosato, also 18, but he didn't know how. He mentioned this to his friends and they suggested the solution.

Josh said: "I was pretty nervous about performing in front of Her Majesty and when the lads said that I should do the proposal straight after our performance it just got worse.

"The lads actually suggested dipping lances when I went down on one knee, but I had no idea the trumpeters and drummer were going to play.

"It was absolutely gleaming. I couldn't have wished for anything more."

He added: "It took Demi's breath away.

"She is usually quite shy, so I think she found it quite overwhelming, in a good way. There were some tears.

"She actually grew up riding horses from the age of three so it was even more special for her."

Josh and Demi met at King Charles I School and have been together since they were 15-years-old.

When Josh decided to follow his family trade in the army, Demi supported him throughout his time at the Army Foundation College, at Harrogate, and the 20-week riding course.

The couple are planning to get married in Worcestershire in 2018 and Josh is already penning his letter to ask permission to get married in uniform with a guard of honour made out of his best friends in the Regiment.
