ORGANISERS of a new Kidderminster Repair Cafe are looking forward to its launch next weekend.

Following the success of the Bewdley Repair Cafe, members of Transition Bewdley are now working with Transition Kidderminster to launch a new Kidderminster Repair Cafe.

The first event will take place on Saturday, March 4, between 10am and 2pm at Youth House, in Bromsgrove Street, and organisers are hoping the cafe can continue on the first Saturday of each month.

The Bewdley volunteers will be on hand at the first event to share tools, carry out repairs and recruit a team of Kidderminster-based repairers.

Bewdley Repair Cafe continues on the third Saturday of each month at St George's Hall, in Load Street.

The team are now searching for volunteers and repairers to join the teams at both the Kidderminster events and the Bewdley events.

John Rhymer, of Transition Bewdley, said: "There is a demand for all sorts of general repairers and engineers in particular seem to be able to turn their hand to anything.

"We have several retired engineers and DIY enthusiasts who volunteer for the Bewdley Repair Cafe and there must be many folks in Kidderminster who would enjoy helping.

"We are particularly in need of additional tool sharpeners, clock repairers and people with experience of mending table lamps, vacuum cleaners, radios and similar portable appliances to join the team at Kidderminster Repair Cafe and also to supplement our hard working team at Bewdley Repair Cafe."

Transition Kidderminster is keen to hear from anyone interested in learning more about volunteering to help at the Kidderminster Repair Cafe - whether it be helping to welcome visitors or by joining the team of repairers - to call Alison Burton on 01562 824490 or Sandy Alexander on 01562 822330.

Any volunteers interested in helping at the Bewdley events can call John Rhymer on 01299 403424.

The first Kidderminster Repair Cafe will take place on March 4, followed by another event on April 1, while the next Bewdley Repair Cafe takes place on March 18.
