A CLEHONGER resident is becoming increasingly frustrated with the amount of scam mail he receives in his post.

John Osborne raised his concerns about the junk mail in March and reported the mail to the relevant authorities.

But despite this, Mr Osborne has since received ten items of scam mail which inform him that he has won a cash prize.

The latest letter is from Gourmet Moments which says he has won £50,417.86 and all he needs to do is buy chocolates or cookies from their catalogue.

A Royal Mail spokesman said they never knowingly deliver scam mail.

He added: "We do not want to handle it or earn any revenue from it. We are working with industry partners and law enforcement agencies to tackle this issue even more vigorously.

"In October 2016 we launched an industry-wide Code of Practice. By sharing intelligence more quickly, and introducing anti-scam clauses into our bulk mail contracts, we hope that the industry will be better placed to terminate suspect mailings before these terrible letters reach our customers.

"We are committed to terminating any mailing identified by law enforcement agencies as being used to scam recipients. Since 2014, we have terminated mailings where companies have been proven to be operating scam mail.

"This has prevented an estimated 22 million items from reaching UK households and businesses in this time."

They advises Mr Osborne to continue to report any mailing he receives which gives him cause for concern. Residents who wish to report a concern about scam mail can write to Freepost Scam Mail, email scam.mail@royalmail.com or call the dedicated messaging service on 03456 113413.
