An eyewitness, who lives on the street and did not wish to be named said: "I was watching tv in my house when I heard a big crash, so I went outside to see what was happening.

"A guy had crashed into parked cars and after apologising to a girl (one of the car owners) who was screaming at him, he tried to run off.

"A man, one of my neighbours physically tackled him down to stop him running away, full-on dragged him down.

"A crowd of people emerged, probably about 20 people came out of their houses to watch what was going on.

"It was right at one end of the road and he had tried to turn a tight corner.
