CHILDREN have been treated to a 'big school' experience thanks to a summer school in Worcester.

37 pupils due to join Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College in September attended the summer school.

They enjoyed literacy and numeracy lessons along with teambuilding, orienteering, an archaeological dig, cooking, ICT and religious education.

They also took part in rock climbing, art, inflatable games, science, challenge activities and life skills and visited Top Barn Activity Centre.

The summer school was funded by the Government to help students improve literacy and numeracy and to assist students in their upcoming transfer.

It is the second time that the college has run the summer school and this year it was organised by Kaye Mason, the school's assistant principal with the help of the college's teachers and teaching assistants.

Miss Mason said: "Running summer school is very rewarding and enjoyable.

"The students grow in confidence over the week and participate in activities they have not experienced before. "They have all worked very well together and made new friends."
