A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a crash on the A449 near to the Ombersley turn which closed the road in both directions.

The man's motorbike left the road and collided with woodland shrubbery near to the junction with the A4113 at 10am.

The southbound carriageway has just reopened at 12.15pm while the northbound was reopened at about 1.30pm.

Road closures were in place along the A449 at Ombersley both ways and the road is also closed at Claines island

The bike is thought to have been travelling southbound and has crossed over to the northbound carriageway of the link road between Worcester and Kidderminster.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews attended a road traffic collision involving a motorbike that left the road near Ombersley this morning.

“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the motorcyclist who was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 10am to the A449 and A4113 junction near Ombersley where a motorbike had left the road and collided into woodland shrubbery.

"The male motorcyclist has sadly died.

"Road closures are in place on the A449 both ways and also at Claines island."

Traffic is already beginning to build in the area near the A4133.

Emergency services are currently at the scene as the incident is ongoing.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has sent an ambulance, a paramedic in rapid response vehicle and a paramedic support officer to the scene.

Bus services to Ombersley have been affected with Diamon Buses tweeting to say it could not access the village with its 303 service until the diversion has lifted.

Worcestershire County Council has sent out an alert warning drivers of the road closures saying: "Emergency closure A449 at Ombersley and Claines roundabout.

"The police hace closed the A449 at Ombersley in both directions and the road is also closed at the Claines roundabout due to a fatal traffic accident earlier this morning."
