THE committee for Alcester in Bloom has once again received a donation of £400 from the developers of Great Alne’s Maudsley Park housing development.

The money, which was presented to members of the committee recently, helps fund the town’s summer bloom display.

This year the display consists of more than 100 hanging flower baskets, 50 troughs and numerous bedding out areas.

Jamie Bigwood, sales advisor at Maudslay Park, presented the cheque to Maggie Payne, chairman of Alcester in Bloom and the chairman of the recreation and open spaces committee, Councillor Jim Kenyon.

Iwan Jones, managing director of Renaissance Villages said: “The town has a fantastic community spirit and it’s great to see so many people getting involved to create such a stunning display.

“The explosion of floral baskets, beds and troughs makes Alcester such an inviting place to visit; one that our over 60s residents greatly enjoy.

“Given our commitment to creating a vibrant retirement lifestyle and to playing an active part in the local community, we are delighted to once again sponsor Alcester in Bloom.”

Accepting the donation, Cllr Kenyon said: “Maudslay Park’s generous sponsorship makes a huge difference to the quality of the displays that we are able to create here in Alcester.

“Our residents and supporting organisations take enormous pride in maintaining the town’s floral display each year, and with their help we are able to keep Alcester in Bloom looking vibrant throughout the summer.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors from far and wide to come and enjoy the wonderful floral displays.”

The Alcester in Bloom committee dates back to 1980, and in 1982 the town was awarded its first certificate of merit by the Britain in Bloom competition.

Today the committee of 12 people and 24 helpers is supported by more than 20 organisations, as well as local business and many of the town’s residents.
