THE Bromsgrove branch of the Burma Star Association are inviting residents to an annual service commemorating the soldiers, sailors and airmen who lost their lives in the Burma Campaign.

The service is being held at the Burma Star memorial on Saturday, August 15.

The event will carry extra significance this year as it is the 70th anniversary of Victory in Japan Day (VJ Day).

The town branch of the Burma Star Association holds the annual Victory in VJ Day commemoration service at the memorial to mark the surrender of Japan, which effectively led to the end of the Second World War.

The service will be at the memorial from 11am, being taken by Padre Canon Graham Lyall from Worcester and Reverend Ray Khan of St John's Church.

The last post and reveille will be followed by a wreath laid on behalf of the Government by the new MP for Mid Worcestershire, Nigel Huddleston.

Wreaths will also be laid by leader of the Bromsgrove District Council Caroline Spencer and president of the town branch of the Burma Star Association Roy Hodge.

In preparation for the event the authority has refurbished the memorial to preserve and maintain its significance in the town, while a Burmese pine tree has also been planted near to it to compliment the theme of the campaign memorial.

Ex members of the services as well as the public are very welcome to attend the short service and wreath laying ceremony.
