A FOOTBALL match raised more than £250 for a charity set up in honour of a tragic Kidderminster teenager.

On Sunday (July 5) the charity football match took place between Josh’s Prayers Charity and Stourport Tesco and raised £273 for Josh’s Prayers.

The Josh’s Prayers team won the match against the Tesco colleagues by 5-2 at Areley Kings football ground.

The match raised money for Josh’s Prayers, which was created in memory of Josh Jones, an 18-year-old trainee mechanic who was killed when a car fell on top of him in May last year.

The charity was set up in Josh’s name as his legacy to raise money to financially help bereaved families who have lost young family members between the age of 16 to 24 in tragic circumstances.

Dean Owen, who organised the game, said: “What a fantastic turn out we had for the charity match and in whole we raised an amazing £273.

“I would like to thank all the players who gave up their time to play for Josh’s Prayers and also the Stourport Tesco’s football team, and Areley Kings football club, who supplied the pitch and refreshments after the match.

“A close friend of the family I feel strongly about this charity and I was quite emotional when the final figure came in to what we raised and to the support on the day.”

Rob Jones, Josh’s father, said: “Josh’s Prayers would like to thank everybody who got involved to show support for Josh’s Prayers, it was a brilliant turn out and the money raised just from this match was amazing.

“We feel now Josh’s Prayers is growing fast but we still have a lot of work to do as there is a lot of families that need our help.

“Steph and I would also like to personally thank Dean Owen, we know it took a lot of work to organise this event.”
