THE Blackheath Traders Association is celebrating after securing a cash windfall to pay for the upkeep of the town's vital CCTV cameras.

The crime-busting cameras were close to being made obsolete but the donations from West Midlands Police (£2,000), Sandwell Council (£4,380) and Black Country Housing (£1,000) saved the day.

Founder of the BTA Nagi Daya Singh, who runs Treasure Island, said: "The CCTV is so important to our town as it makes both shopkeepers and shoppers feel safe.

"However, the cameras and the operating system needed updating at a cost of over £5,000 so we are really grateful to West Midlands Police, Sandwell Council and Black Country Housing for giving us the cash."

He added: "The next BTA meeting will take place on Thursday, July 23 at 5.30pm at Blackheath Library on the 1st floor, access via the entrance on Henderson Way and we look forward to seeing you all there."

Members of the BTA include Printing Well, Rob Clarke Photography, Age UK, Acorns Retail, Greggs, Blackheath Conservative Club, TNT Steak Hut and Rock Star Guitars.

The BTA also showcases offers from its members in a drive to bring more shoppers to the town.
