A WOMEN'S Morris dancing team based in Leominster embraced tradition when they danced at the edge of an historic Iron Age site on May Day.

Jenny Pipes Morris, which featured on popular BBC programme Escape to the Country, chose to perform at Dinedor Outdoors Centre, close to Hereford centre partly because of its proximity to the historic site.

The performance featured a special guest appearance by the ‘Dinedor Serpent’ – a fluffy cousin of the Iron Age stone monument discovered close by during the building of the Rotherwas ring road.

Karen Sutton, ‘Fool’ for Jenny Pipes Morris, said: "The tradition of celebrating May Day goes back many hundreds of years when it was classed as the start of summer. "Most Morris dancing sides continue to mark the date with performances at places of historical significance.

"We really enjoyed dancing at Dinedor Hill and had a very enthusiastic audience of young campers from the outdoors centre."

Jenny Pipes Morris will be performing at local pubs on Thursday nights until July.
