AN Eastern European man got away with attempting to steal alcohol from a Worcester express store, after he pulled a knife on the security guard.

The man walked into the Tesco Express store, in Foregate Street, and proceeded toward the section of the shop that displays alcohol.

He picked up two bottles of wine, and walked straight past the self-service tills without offering payment and any point.

When he was challenged by the security guard for not paying for the items, and the wine was taken from him, he pulled a Stanley Knife on the security guard, who had taken a hold of him.

After escaping the guard and the store, the would-be thief ran off towards the direction of the city centre.

A spokeswoman for West Mercia Police said: "There have been no arrests yet, so we would welcome any help in catching him, and are appealing for information."

Police confirmed the incident happened on Monday, March 2, around 8.20pm.

A spokesman for Tesco said: "This is a police matter and we will be assisting them with their inquiries throughout the investigations."

He is described as being Eastern European, around 5ft 9 tall, of slim build and aged around 25 years old.

The man was wearing a black coat, which contained a green hood, a black back pack, black trousers and had shaved hair on the side of his head, and long hair on the top of his head.

Anyone with information into the incident should contact the police on 101, quoting incident number 0612S 020315.
