EVESHAM was alive with festive fun and Christmas cheer yesterday (Saturday, November 22).

The town’s Christmas lights were switched on, Santa and his reindeers paraded through the streets and seasonal gifts were available at a special craft fair.

Children, families and adults alike joined in the all-day celebrations, which concluded with a fireworks extravaganza and rock and roll sing-along.

Mayor of Evesham, Councillor Charlie Homer, was joined by Postman Pat and Santa Claus to flick the switch and turn on the town’s Christmas lights.

He said: “It was a really good, well-organised event with a massive turnout.

“It was great to see so many people and I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed the town so busy.

“From the atmosphere you could tell that everyone was enjoying the festive spirit and having a good time.”

Members of the public who attended the festivities were similarly complementary, taking to Facebook to heap praise on the event.

Rob Lewis posted “great event” while Rosalie Daubney said it was “lovely”.

Evesham's festive fun will continue into December with the traditional market running from December 1 to14 while on December 6 the Evesham Rotary Club's 90ft tree of light will be illuminated in memory of loved ones that cannot be here this Christmas.
