A MAN who climbed onto the concrete canopy above a Worcester shop last night has been lambasted on social media sites for wasting police and fire crews’ time.
The 24-year-old male, who got himself trapped above the Robin ELT Shoes store in The Shambles at about midnight, had to be rescued by firefighters.
Members of the public took to Twitter to ridicule the individual’s Saturday night antics.
One user @rockingrodders wrote “make him pay for everyone’s time - he’ll learn then” and @adam_charnock added “moron, hope his parents are proud of him”.
Others took a more satirical approach, with @duncaneclark joking “he must really want a new pair of shoes” while @KarlLacey1974 labelled the amateur climber a “prize turnip”.
A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Worcester was called to the incident at 12.06pm, after the police sought help with getting the man down from his perch.
Firefighters used a ladder to rescue the individual and by 12.22pm he was back on solid ground.
South Worcestershire Police were similarly critical of the 24-year-old.
Officers tweeted: “Young man decided climbing on canopy would be sensible. Got stuck. Wastes police and fire brigade time.”
