A DUDLEY man died after taking a cocktail of drugs, an inquest was told.

Dean Cottam, aged 27, was taking medication to help him cope with depression and severe pain in his arm following a motorbike accident nine years ago.

The inquest at Smethwick Coroners Court on October 21 heard that Mr Cottam had previously made threats to take his own life.

Mr Cottam was found unconscious on the sofa at his Corbyn Road home on June 22.

Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at Russells Hall Hospital.

Zafar Siddique, senior coroner for the Black Country, said that a post-mortem found a variety of prescription drugs and traces of cannabis and cocaine in Mr Cottam’s system.

He continued: “It was a fatal combination of drugs that resulted in his death.

“Sadly, on this occasion he did take his own life, this was suicide.

“It’s an absolute tragedy for such a young person to take their own life in these circumstances.”
