A BELLY-busting fundraiser organised by the family of Josh Jones, who died in a tragic accident in May, was “absolutely amazing”.

The Man versus Food contest, which saw twelve participants battle it out to be crowned champion eater, raised money for Josh’s Prayers, the organisation set up in the Stourport teenager’s memory to support other bereaved families throughout Wyre Forest.

Entrants in the humorous and messy competition had to eat a gigantic burger, huge portion of chips with curry sauce and a gateau, down a pint of Guinness and lemonade, crawl under a table and then spin around a broom.

The epic challenge was too much for most participants but Richard Robertshaw saw of his rivals to become the only finisher and claim the victory.

Stephanie Jones, Josh’s mother, who helped organise the event, said: “It was brilliant and absolutely amazing and we were so proud that everyone came out to support our family and the cause.

“The crowds were laughing and cheering on the competitors and it was really funny to watch.”

“With the amount of money we hope to have raised we will be able to do a huge amount for other bereaved families locally and help relieve some of the stress of arranging funerals or burials they will be experiencing.”

She added that her family was exceptionally grateful to Wilson’s traditional fish and chip shop, of Bridge Street in Stourport, for cooking all of the food, Helena Maffei of CB Catering in Kidderminster for donating the baps and Playland Fun Park for hosting the fundraiser.

Stalls at the event collected £180 and when sponsorship is counted up the full total raised is expected to be around £600.
