100 YEARS AGO.
West Malvern journeyed to Ledbury last Saturday and played the Town club in the second round for the Worcestershire Junior Cup. Several of the selected players for the West did not turn up - a not uncommon occurrence this season - and reserves had to fill their places. Dayton resumed his old place in goal, H Powell being one of the absentees. He played a capital game, stopping a number of dangerous shots.

50 YEARS AGO.
Upton-on-Severn Chamber of Commerce is determined to do all in its powers to make sure that Upton-on-Severn does not become "the forgotten town". It is to renew its fight for a holiday caravan site, and to ask for a schedule of the areas of the town set aside for industrial development. Besides this it is to complain about snow clearance and will watch housing development. Mr Eddie Webb declared, "Upton is the forgotten town. I have been saying it for years. We must not be outdated."

25 YEARS AGO.
Motorists have been "shocked and angered" to receive fines for parking offences in Malvern car parks which they set they never committed. And they have been demanding refunds from the district council and refusing to pay fines. Now staff at Malvern Hills District Council are currently sorting through claims made by irate drivers and supplying refunds where there is a genuine grievance. Council solicitor Mr Peter Jeremiah admitted there were several dates at the end of last year when fine notices seemed to have been issued at random.
