WE regret to state that Mr Edward Harvey, the manager of the Capital and Counties Bank, Malvern Link, met with a serious accident on Tuesday night. Mr Harvey, who suffers from deafness, was out walking near Newland Church, at about 8.30, when he was knocked down by a motor-car coming from Worcester to Malvern, and driven by Mr A Holliday, of Comer Gardens, who is employed at Barker’s Garage, Worcester. The driver of the car picked up Mr Harvey, who sustained rather severe injuries, and took him to Dr Stephens, who attended him. We understand that Mr Harvey is progressing as satisfactorily as can be expected. Much sympathy is felt by Mr Harvey and his family in their trouble.

50 years ago THE Ronettes - America’s sensational follow-up to the Crystals - make one of their few provincial appearances of their current three-week tour at Malvern Winter Gardens tomorrow evening. They have been signed up for a series of radio and television features, including Thank Your Lucky Stars, Saturday Club and They’ve Sold a Million. Despite their relative youth, the Ronettes have been working together for over four years and have gained an enormous amount of experience performing in twist clubs and teenage venues throughout America - particularly in and around their home district of New York. Tomorrow theu will be backed by their own group The Cheynes, who will also have their own solo spot.

LOCAL league football supporters have hit out at Government proposals for identity cards for football fans presented to the House of Commons this week. Malvern Hills district councillor Keith Butler, who is Hereford United’s commercial manager, has told MPs that the proposed Football Spectators Bill could bring down the Conservative government. The Democrat councillor says: “Many Tory MPs are coming under pressure, and it has been made clear that if they support the proposals their seats will be in jeopardy, as their majorities are vastly smaller than the number of football supporters in their constituencies prepared to switch their vote to the second-placed challenger on this one issue.”
