Longdon

IT is very sad to report the recent passing away of Pat Unwin of Longdon Hall. She played an enormous part in the life of the village and the benefice as a whole or a great many years and she will be greatly missed. On Sunday, May 25, a service of Holy Communion will take the place of the Family Service at St Mary's Church. During this service, Pat will be remembered and her family prayed for. After the service, Pat's ashes will be interred in St Mary's graveyard. The service will start at 11.15am.

The concert by Malvern College Chamber Choir last Saturday delighted the audience with their singing and playing. Several soloists also performed with oboe, tuba, trombone and voice. St Mary's Junior Choir also took part, singing beautifully. This was held in aid of the PCC's chosen charity, World Vision Ethiopia.

On Rogation Sunday, Mike Guilding of Southend Farm very kindly acted as host to this year's service. A large group from across the benefice took part in the worship at various points around Mike's farm. Thank you to Mike for allowing this service to take part on his farm.

Do not forget the PTFA AGM on Thursday, May 8 at 3pm at school. Miss Dobbs will be in school to supervise children of parents attending the meeting.

On Sunday, May 11, a Children's Fun Day will take place on Longdon Playing Field. The entrance will be £3 per child (under 14s only) but adults will be free. There will be bouncy castles, inflatable slides, face painting, football skills, activity castles and a raffle. Refreshments will be available. All this is in aid of World Vision's work in Ethiopia. The event is sponsored by GS Bouncy Castles. For further information, please ring Sally and Adrian Sinclair on 833356. A great day out for you and the kids and such a reasonable price!

This year, Christian Aid week runs from May 11-17. Christian Aid works with the poorest people on earth to fight poverty and injustice. Particular help is needed in Zimbabwe, for those in conflict zones and for people existing with AIDS and HIV. Please give generously.

At St Mary's Church, there will be a service of Holy Communion on Sunday, May 11, beginning at 8am. A family service will take place at St Nicholas, Queenhill, beginning at 9.45am.
