West Malvern
YOGA for youngsters is the latest keep fit opportunity available in West Malvern. South African-born Anita Farrer, a qualified (and Criminal Records Bureau checked!) yoga instructor is offering afternoon classes once a week for 6-9 year olds on Wednesdays and for 3-4 year olds on Fridays. "I have been doing yoga all my life, "says Anita. "It all started in my mum's living room in South Africa in the 70's. She was a yoga instructor and used to drag me and my siblings out to go and stretch with the women from the village. Now my own two girls do various stretches to get them going in the morning - even if they still think it funny to find me standing on my head whenever the urge takes me....
"The classes start with a warm-up followed by various yoga stretches. To make it interesting (especially for the little ones), every week we imagine 'going places, copying various animals and plants. We've visited the jungle, seaside, zoo and even used our bodies to write our names. The bigger kids get a more challenging workout with stronger poses to work their muscles.
"I really believe in yoga for children. I am amazed how many kids not even older than 8 are as stiff as boards..... Hopefully we will soon have more flexi-kids in West Malvern!"
The classes are held at The Bunker, Raglan House, Westminster Bank. For further information contact Anita on 574217 or 07753660870.
The Bunker - created to make use of the void beneath the car park for recently rebuilt Raglan House - will be the venue for a quiz-with-a-difference being organised by the village school PTA a week tomorrow, Saturday May 10 at 7pm. The Big Brain Quiz will contain a high-tech element with video rounds as well as others calling for observation and general knowledge. Unusually, it will not be essential to form teams to take part - individuals will be welcome. In fact, expect the unexpected is the slogan for what is billed as a fun evening with a twist. Refreshments and raffle available, plus prizes which will include quality booze' and video games. Entrance £2 per person on the door.
