Welland
THE first thing to mention this week is a Farmyard Baptism that took place last Sunday (Rogation Sunday) at Lawn Farm, Welland (home of the local pig and sheep farmer Roger and Jo Cousins). The retired Vicar from Malvern, Ray Martin, used a 17th Century 12" Travelling Font, which was supplied by St James Church. The baptismal candidate was James Black's son, Christopher, who was supported by 50 relatives and friends.
The next item for this week features the St James' Church Concert given by Chris Garrick and John Etheridge. This was a huge success and raised a profit in excess of £300. Grateful thanks must go to those who supported this enjoyable event
The next event at the church takes place on Friday, May 16 and sees the well-known Gloucestershire folk singer, Johnny Coppin (singer/songwriter) appearing with Keith Burgess (violin and recorders). Tickets are now available from me in the Post Office (£10 per adult; £6 for under 16's) or from David Richardson (see below for phone number). Refreshments will be available.
Saturday, September 13 sees the welcome return of the 40 strong Tredegar Male Voice Choir. Further information and tickets from David Richardson on 01684 592088
St James Church now has Candles of Remembrance, which can be lit and placed in the Lady Chapel by anyone who wishes to commemorate a loved one. Just call in anytime when the church is open - you'll find the candles and cards in the Lady Chapel.
