Upton
Shadow minister follows flood progress
UPTON is set to receive a visit from shadow minister for environment, food and rural affairs Peter Ainsworth.
Mr Ainsworth is visiting the town on Monday (April 28) to monitor the progress being made on flood defences and other plans since the 2007 summer floods.
Along with Conservative parliamentary candidate Harriet Baldwin he will visit homes that are still uninhabitable because of water damage, as well as newly reopened waterside pubs The Swan and The King's Head.
He will also be taking a close look at the flood-prone Hanley Road, and hearing what progress Worcestershire County Council has made in a feasibility study into defending it, as well as a general update on the Environment Agency's plans for the town.
Mrs Baldwin is welcoming Mr Ainsworth's visit to Upton.
"Following visits last year from environment minister Hilary Benn and David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative party, residents and businesses in Upton should be reassured that the town will be high up on the list for any future spending on flood defences," she said.
