Hut plans for Hanley youths
A GROUP of young people from Hanley Swan will be unveiling publicly an ambitious project this Saturday at the monthly cafe and market in the village hall.
The hanleyHUT initiative came about following the successful award of a £2,500 grant earlier in the year. Initially this was to go towards buying a mobile home for the young people to meet in. After some thought it was decide to use this to kick start a much more ambitious project of actually designing and building their own facility.
The Village Hall committee has offered their support in the provision of a piece of land, and plans are as far as identifying an architect and builder, drawing up a design brief and entering into discussions with Malvern Hill Distirct Council as the project will need planning permission
The young people hope to apply for grants to meet the cost of this building, and in the process learn skills of teamwork, presentation, building and construction.
Sue Adeney, who runs the younger youth club and is working with the teenagers, said: "Everyone we have spoken to thinks this is a fantastic idea which, if it comes off, could be a template for other groups to work on across the country.
