TWO Malvern residents will don their running shoes, and not much else, for an awareness-raising run through the streets of Pamplona in Spain.

Abigail Izzard, 23, and Anthony Smith, 38, will join hundreds of people for the Running of the Nudes, organised by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), on Thursday, July 5, two days before the city's annual Running of the Bulls.

It offers tourists a fun alternative to the event, in which hundreds of bulls stampede through the cobbled streets before being slaughtered in bullfights. The pair, who will wear just thongs, briefs and red neckerchiefs, took part in last year's run, and described it as an amazing experience'.

The protest began several years ago, with just a few naked campaigners, and has snowballed in popularity. It now attracts around 1,500 runners from 30 countries.

PETA spokesman Poorva Joshipura, said: "The Running of the Nudes is a win-win situation - participants have fun, Pamplona gets tourists and bulls live to see another Spanish sunrise."
