MALVERN Town Council is going green after members recommended pioneering plans to run all its vehicles on environmentally-friendly biofuel.
The fuel is produced locally using waste vegetable oil from the catering sector, and is cheaper and less polluting than both petrol and diesel.
The council's vehicles can use the fuel without any adjustments, and it can even be mixed together with diesel in the same tank.
Operations manager Charles Porter said the scheme offered nothing but positives. "It's more environmentally friendly, we can get it, and it should never be in short supply," he said.
The council is looking to reduce its carbon footprint, and town clerk Richard Chapman said it was the first authority in Worcestershire to pioneer such a scheme.
The scheme should now receive final approval when the full council meets later this month.
