Library improvement costs

EACH week when I go into the library, I feel deeply depressed by the waste of money and time spent on the improvements to the gardens.

The cost of hiring machinery for weeks must be high and the whole project must cost a huge amount and probably escalating by the week.

Some old fashioned weeding, tidying and general maintenance of the paths instead of tearing up hedges and shrubs (which help to protect from the pollution of car emissions) would have saved money that could have gone to the grant for the Malvern Theatres and not to mention hanging baskets.

Before this upheaval it was a pleasant enough place for people to walk through or to sit and eat their sandwiches in the lunch break.

If MHDC worries about "making significant reductions to its emissions" they should have considered the amount of CO2 generated from the production of the concrete being used in the library grounds i.e. one tonne of CO2 for one tonne of processed cement.

In my opinion this is an unnecessary and wasteful and unattractive project.

I have been watching the Library grounds development with interest and feel that it will open up an attractive town centre vista. however, I agree with Barbara Struggles in that I hope there will be a replanting of trees and shrubs so we don't end up with a sterile, mainly paved area. Malvern is blessed with some glorious victoriaa, which I believe should be used as part of the town's attractions to generate more tourism and benefit the local economy.
