A SPONSORED Swim organised by Malvern Rotary Club on Saturday evening (November 14) was a big success.

A dozen teams comprising up to eight swimmers each and featuring members of all ages, some as young as nine-years-old, took part in the second annual event at Malvern Splash leisure centre.

Teams had 20 minutes to complete as many lengths of the swimming pool as possible and raise money towards a portable ultra-sound scanner for the out-patient department of Malvern’s new Community Hospital, which is currently under construction at Seaford Court, in Malvern Link.

Teams were also able to retain 20 per cent of their sponsorship for charities of their own choice.

Rotary club spokesman Sandy Gibson said the teams had put in a great effort, with some managing to complete more than 60 lengths within the time limit.

“This is the second year that we have organised this event, and it went very well,” he said. “There was a maelstrom of noise inside the swimming pool, and everyone seemed to enjoy what they were doing.

“It will take a bit of time to find out how much money we have raised, but hopefully it has been as successful financially as it certainly was in terms of participation.”
