A FEW showers did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of rock fans who attended Mapp Fest over the weekend.

The two-day free festival, held on the Link Common off Moorlands Road, featured a wide variety of performers form Worcestershire and further afield.

The festival is the brainchild of Malvern music lover Andy Mapp, who started it with private fund-raising music events at his Bank Street home, before branching out with two festivals in the Re-Con venue in the centre of Malvern.

In 2014, he held the first outdoor Mapp Fest on the common, which was so successful that the following year it was extended over two days.

The event is intended to rekindle the spirit of free festivals held on the common during the 70s and 80s.

This year, the festival supported Headway, St Richards Hospice, Charlotte and Craig's Saving Hearts Foundation and Malvern Community Action.

Lisa Nash, one of the organisers, said: "It was a fantastic show. We haven't got a final total yet for the amount we raised, but we know we did brilliantly well.

"There were some showers but that didn't put people off. It was very well attended.

She said that among the outstanding acts were hip-hopper Tabitha Jade, Fort Royal, formerly called Ronin, making their festival debut under their new name, San Blas and the Polly Morris Band.
