A GROUP of students from Malvern's French twin town of Bagnères-de-Bigorre paid a flying visit to the town,

The 28 students of Collège Saint Vincent in Bagnères were staying at a youth hostel in Street, Somerset, and travelled by coach to Malvern for the day.

Peter Baker, teacher of English at the college, said: "We had a brief meeting with the representative from Malvern Hills District Council.

"Then we had an enjoyable picnic lunch in the park before walking up to look at the Priory and the Priory Gateway. The pupils then spent some time trying out their English skills in the town's shops.

"It was really just a flying visit as a preliminary to establishing permanent links. The group was on a short cultural visit to England which combined a visit to Malvern as well as Windsor and Bath. "The director of Collège Saint Vincent, M Xavier Salaün, is very keen to initiate educational links between the two towns."
