THE photographic skills and visions of local people with learning disabilities will be brought to life at an exhibition in Great Malvern Priory.

Through The Lens is the culmination of a photography course run by Heart of England Mencap at its day activity group, Pathway.

Armed with iPads, customers from Pathway, based at the 2nd Malvern Scout HQ in Malvern, immersed themselves in the photographic process from top to bottom.

They chose locations and subject matters, snapped the perfect picture on their tablets and then uploaded, edited and printed their creations ready for the upcoming exhibition.

Val Rainbow, Heart of England Mencap’s arts co-ordinator, said: “I created the course using different themes to help develop a variety of skills and to make the learning process enjoyable and interesting.

“Over the weeks we visited several local locations and covered themes such as leaves and trees, buildings and architecture, textures, close-ups, still life and portraits to name just a few.

“Everyone on the course produce great work and each week brought new, amazing pictures.

“It was a joy to watch everyone discover newfound skills and talents and a delight to see them create something they could be proud of.”

The free exhibition opens on Tuesday, January 9, and runs until the end of the month. It is open daily from 10.30am to 5pm.
