MALVERN mayor Cynthia Palmer joined members of Malvern Hills Lions Club to help them draw attention to Lions World Sight Day on Thursday, October 12.

The inability to see can prevent children from learning, adults from working and the elderly from having their independence.

Malvern Hills Lions organises the collection and recycling of used spectacles from opticians and other venues throughout the area.

The Lions pack up the spectacles and send them off to bring the gift of sight to the less fortunate in parts of the world where a basic pair of glasses can cost several months' wages.

So far this year, Malvern Hills Lions have sent off nearly 10,000 pairs of recycled spectacles and Coun Palmer will hand in her own used spectacles to the Lions to be recycled.
