THE changing seasons is the theme of a concert at a Worcester church which will feature new arrangements and some well-loved classical pieces.

Tickets are still available for the concert at St Martin's Church in London Road at 7.30pm on Saturday, May 20.

The programme will include Tom Wells’s composition entitled ‘A Song for all seasons’ which is a song cycle of musical arrangements of seasonal poetry.

The 15 piece chamber orchestra will perform excerpts from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Vaughan-Williams’ Lark Ascending.

The music will also be performed by the 80 strong Powick Community Choir.

Musical director Tom Wells said the inspiration for his own compositions of seasonal music had been a 'A Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady' by Edith Holden, a book given to him by his mother which contained 'a treasure trove of seasonal poetry' as well as illustrations depicting wildlife.

He said: "I found myself sitting at the piano, setting these wonderful poems to music. St Martin's Church is a lovely venue for concerts with good acoustics."

He said the second half of the piece would be a 'potpourri of music' including rock and pop which he said would have 'something for everyone to enjoy'.

Mr Wells said: "It's an exciting prospect for me but a bit nerve-wracking."

Tickets are priced £10 will be available on the door or, in advance from Callow End village stores. The price of the tickets includes wine and nibbles.

The choir is made up of people between the ages of 15 and 80 years and is four part with soprano, alto, tenor and bass represented.

Those interested in joining the choir will be given a complimentary programme with details of how to become involved or can call Mr Wells on 01905 831752.
