A MALVERN charity is calling for local people to help by voting for them to receive a slice of National Lottery funding.

There is up to £50,000 up for grabs for a variety of projects as part of The People's Projects scheme.

The scheme encourages people to chose where the Lottery money goes by voting for their favourite project from a shortlisted group.

Malvern charity What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful is one of those chosen for its Special Hands Community Support project.

The group offers an outreach service for parents and carers with children with disabilities or additional needs.

The group will offer one-to-one sessions and build on early intervention through play, sensory activities and social interaction.

Kim Philpotts, who founded the charity in Howsell Road, said: "We have been shortlisted for the People's Project and we are up for winning up to £49,000.

"We really need the help of local people to try and get the votes.

"Our project is for outreach services to work with families in their homes with a one-to-one family support worker."

Mrs Philpotts said she set up the group after supporting her own son with special needs.

Also shortlisted is New Hope Lodge, in Worcester, which is hoping to secure £47,500.

The charity wants to help young adults aged between 18 and 25 years with learning disabilities, to grow and develop.

They also hope to offer retail work experience to help improve the young people's future employment prospects.

Voting is open until Monday, April 3.

The People’s Projects is a partnership between the Big Lottery Fund, ITV, STV and The National Lottery.
