A FATHER and son duo beat the competition in an episode of the popular BBC One television show Pointless.

James and Chris Lush, aged 27 and 62, took home £2,000 after their win, which aired on Thursday, November 17.

The pair, who both live in Malvern, have become local celebrities since their win.

Chris Lush, who ran The Unicorn pub in Malvern for 18 years, said: "I work at The Bishop of Hereford's School and at Queen Elizabeth School and have become the biggest celebrity in the schools.

"We split the £2,000 between us but as I lent him money to buy a car he gave me his share.

"I bought a greenhouse and a shed for my allotment."

Mr Lush, who lives in Bellevue Terrace, Malvern, said people told him he shouldn't have been allowed to take part as he ran weekly quizzes in his pub.

"Everybody says 'You shouldn't be able to take part as you are professionals'," he said.

James Lush, who lives in Barnards Green, Malvern and used to play for Malvern Town FC, said: "Pointless was incredible.

"It was a bit of a whirlwind of an experience. Dad got us out of a sticky spot a few times to be honest with some crucial low scoring answers.

"Something which my mates have been keen to point out to me ever since seeing it!"

Mr Lush thought he and his father might miss the show as it was 5pm and they had not started filming.

"The next minute we were told we will be in the next show. We were led to our podiums and stood in front of Alexander and Richard asking us 'Question 1'!," he said.

"We had to keep the outcome a secret for a while as it was filmed back in March!

"It was very surreal watching it back through, even Dad and I were shouting answers at the TV in the final round but your mind just goes blank when you're on the spot."

Mr Lush said the hosts Richard Osman and Alexander Armstrong were very friendly and congratulated them at the end.
