AN angry resident says children could be blinded by ‘disgusting’ bins brimming with dog mess.

Michael Stokes claims the bins have not be emptied and now bags of dog mess are piling up around them.

He says six bins around the Duke of Edinburgh Way area, in Malvern Link, are overflowing with dog mess.

Mr Stokes, who lives in Duke of Edinburgh Way, says he cannot find out who is responsible for the bins, despite complaining to five agencies.

The 56-year-old said: “I just went down there. Kids were playing football and I said be careful because if they kick the ball into the bin they will get poo on them.

“It could get in their eyes. The children are at risk of blindness and contracting campylobacter, a life threatening illness which can cause renal failure and even death.

“I keep getting passed around. It’s a mystery who’s in charge of the bins.

“Until someone gets ill nothing will happen. Six bins are full of muck and now people are throwing it on the floor.

“They are normal waste bins, not dog mess bins.

“It’s going to be a dirty job now, even the rubbish men think it’s disgusting.”

Malvern Hills District Council says it received a complaint from the resident on October 26 and told him Fortis Living manage the dog waste bins.

A council spokesman said dog waste is permitted in the rubbish bins.

Phil Merrick, joint head of economy and communities for Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We sympathise with the resident but we did advise them shortly after they contacted us that Fortis Living were responsible for these bins and not us.

“We do not have the resource to take on responsibility for emptying other people’s waste bins and it would be inappropriate for us to do so anyway.”

Fortis Living was unavailable for comment.
