A KEEN photographer from Upton is delighted that one of his pictures has been chosen for the 2015 BBC Countryfile calendar.

Graham Mealand, of Hyde Lane, took the picture at Arisaig, on the north-west islands of Scotland.

He said: "My wife and I were on holiday and it was our last day at Arisaig before going across to Skye. My wife said we should go for one last walk on the beach.

"The light was amazing and the whole scene came to life when two horses went by, and I got a picture with one of the horses in it."

The beach is known to filmgoers from the movie Local Hero, starring Burt Lancaster.

Mr Mealand has been taking photos for years, since he worked at Cadbury's in Bournville, where he belonged to the company's photography society.

He said: "In those days, I used to be able to develop black and white film. Nowadays, of course, it's all digital.

"I'm delighted my picture has been chosen for the calendar. There were some 33,000 entries for the competition, so to be one of the chosen 12 is a real accolade."

The picture, which has been given the title Coastline Canter, will be on the August page of the calendar, which will feature in Countryfile this Sunday (September 6).
