HYPNOTHERAPIST and counsellor Daniel Browne, who practises in Evesham, is on a mission throughout September to encourage people to pay more attention to looking after their physical and mental wellbeing.

Thirty-year-old Daniel works from the Health Hub and Play Cafe, in Evesham’s High Street, and is sharing self-care tips using social media to thousands of people, while also offering free mindfulness classes and giving away hypnosis MP3 files.

The therapist started his career in mental health care working with patients suffering from severe mental health problems like schizophrenia to help them rehabilitate and integrate into the community after leaving institutions.

He then progressed to train as a therapist, gaining diplomas in counselling, hypnotherapy and psychotherapy.

Daniel said: “September is the month when everyone returns to work and school after the summer holidays. As life returns to normal, it can often be stressful having to balance work life and family life again.

“It’s also the time of year when people begin to look ahead to the festive season and that in itself can cause stress. I believe that aside from New Year, September is the ideal time to focus on our physical and mental wellbeing in order to feel good over the autumn and winter months. That’s why I’ve declared September as ‘Self-Care September’.

“Aside from giving away hypnotherapy MP3s and running free mindfulness classes for local people during the month, I’m interested in having an open discussion about the importance of taking care of our own wellbeing.

“With one in four people suffering from mental health issues and stress levels on the increase, a month such as Self Care September is important for raising awareness of those issues and ensuring there is a conversation about how we can take care of ourselves.

“I’m encouraging everybody to look at how they can improve their wellbeing during Self-Care September and particularly to get involved on Twitter using the hashtag #SelfCareSeptember.”

Daniel says Mindfulness is a form of meditation that has existed for thousands of years. However, despite being an ancient practice, mindfulness actually has lots of benefits in the present day.

Free Mindfulness classes are available at The Health Hub and Play Cafe Evesham on Tuesday September 8 at 10am to 10.45am and non Wednesday September 9 from 5.15pm to 6pm.

“Personally I have been practicing mindfulness since the age of 14 and find its benefits to be incredibly powerful,” he said.

“There are many benefits of taking time to practice mindfulness, and even if you do it for just 10 minutes each day you could find that you experience the following:

• Increased self-awareness

• A feeling of inner harmony

• Clarity

• Improved focus

• Increased wellbeing

• Happiness

• Peace of mind
