POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was raped as she walked home alone in Telford.

The woman was attacked in Wrockwardine Wood Way at about 3.30am on Saturday, July 18 on her way home from a night with friends in the Oakengates area of the town.

Police said they have reviewed CCTV and spoken to people in the area and now want to speak to a man who is believed to have followed the victim.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a significant investigation into the rape of a woman.

“I am particularly interested in identifying a male who followed the victim along Stafford Street and New Road away from Oakengates towards the scene of the attack.

“I would like that person to come forward as we would like to eliminate him from our enquiries.

"I would also like anyone who knows who this person is, or anyone who may know or have information regarding the identity of the attacker to contact West Mercia Police."

Police have also said they would like to speak to the occupants of a car which was seen to stop on Stafford Road near the bridge over the A442 between 2.30am and 3.30am on the morning of the attack. It is believed people in the car spoke to a male in the area and may have information which could help the investigation.

A CCTV image has also been released showing a man walking along Stafford Road/Uxacona Way away from Telford town centre at about 2.30am. Police have said they would like to speak to the man in the image as he may have information which could help the investigation.

Any information which may help in the investigation can be reported to police on 101 quoting incident 133-s-180715.

Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
