AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a gazebo was flung through the air by a freak gust of wind at the Three Counties Showground, landing five people in hospital.

The incident at about 12.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, happened during a Christian event being held at the showground.

Now Worcestershire Regulatory Services has launched an investigation into the accident, in which the gazebo flew about 100 meters.

Three people were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital and two others to Malvern Minor Injuries Unit with head, arm and back injuries.

David Rolles of Christian charity Salt and Light, which organised the event, said: “The checks on the rest of tents, gazebos and structures were undertaken yesterday and everything was in order.

“The event has gone on as continued.”

The event, entitled Transform, saw about 2,000 people gather for hymn singing and other activities and was due to finish yesterday, Wednesday, evening.

The Three Counties Showground declined to comment.
