RESIDENTS visiting an exhibition about proposals to build 800 new homes on the edge of Malvern voiced concerns about the access to the site.

Nearly 200 local people came to the consultation, held on Wednesday by developers Gleeson and Welbeck at St Leonard's Chapel in Newland, close to the proposed development site.

The plans show that the site, bounded by the railway, Lower Howsell Road and Worcester Road, will have its main access off a reconstructed roundabout at the bottom of Malvern Link.

A spokesman for the developers said: "It was great to see so many residents attend and discuss the proposals with the team.

"The main area of discussion focused on transport and we will be writing to consultees in the coming weeks with more information about the scheme and the package of transport investment proposed, including the multimillion pound redesign of the Townsend Way roundabout into a gyratory system, which is being designed in consultation with Worcestershire County Council highways, to improve flows and increase capacity on this key route.

“Ultimately, our aim is to deliver an attractive development, in-keeping with the setting. This will provide much-needed new homes for local people, incorporating facilities such as healthcare provision, local shops, employment opportunities and services as well as transport improvements.”
