A MAMMOTH planning application for more than 2,000 homes in South Worcestershire is taking shape, after the developer submitted additional information.

The proposals for the 153-hectare site to the south of Worcester include plans for up to 2,204 properties, a hotel, primary school, community centre and sports facilities.

Welbeck Strategic Land originally applied for outline planning permission in June 2013 - but has now submitted further details in response to comments received from councils and other statutory bodies.

It has made changes to its A4440, access and movement proposals, removed orchards from the school site and reduced the impact on the listed Middle Broomhall Farmhouse, according to planning documents.

There have however been “no substantive alterations “ to the original application.

Alistair Watson, managing director of Welbeck Strategic Land, said: “The submission of the additional information is part of the normal planning procedure.”

The plan is known as the South Worcestershire urban extension, one of the main developments envisioned in the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

Its site is so large that it cross the boundaries of three districts – Malvern Hills District Council, Wychavon District Council and Worcester City Council – and identical applications have been submitted to each local authority.

The development includes land for elderly person’s accommodation, business and retail uses, health facilities, allotments and orchards, as well as associated infrastructure.

Numerous comments on the planning bid have been uploaded to the planning website by members of the public, many objecting to the development.

Dates have not yet been set for council planning committees to discuss the proposal and, due to the size and complexity of the development, this process is likely to take longer than usual.
