A FORMER education adviser to the Diocese of Worcester has received a prestigious accolade for his years of tireless work for the church community.

Phil Mitchell, who recently retired from his role, was named this year’s recipient of the Wulfstan Cross by Bishop of Worcester John Inge.

During his time in the role Mr Mitchell was responsible for leading training for governors and teachers as well as number of other important tasks. He currently serves on the Standing Advisory Councils for Religious Education in Worcester and Dudley and is an Inspector for Anglican Schools as well the chairman of the governors of St Luke’s CE First School in Redditch.

He was presented with the award recently at a special service at Worcester Cathedral, where Dr Inge said he had shown “huge dedication” in his role.

Mr Mitchell said it was “an honour” to receive the accolade.

I have been genuinely privileged to work with the many talented and dedicated headteachers, leadership teams, staff, governors and clergy in our schools across the diocese who give so much to the lives of our children and their families,” he said.

“I know that my life has been enriched by the opportunity to work with them and accept this award with gratitude on their behalf.”

The Wulfstan Cross pays tribute to those who have made an outstanding contribution to the diocese and is named after an 11th century Bishop of Worcester.
