EURO-MP Molly Scott Cato was the special guest when Malvern Hills Green Party held a fundraising event last Friday at the Lyttelton Well, Church Street.

Professor Cato spoke about the EU's role in creating dialogue across national barriers and its influence on jobs, constitutional change, social and economic wellbeing and human rights.

She said: "The European Greens stand for a cap on banker’s bonuses, small-scale family farming, peace and an economy that works for the common good and against austerity."

The event also saw Malvern Mayor, Cllr Julian Roskams, address the 80-plus gathering in his first public speech as Green Party parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire.

He said: "I’m involved with many local groups and know that when communities come together for the common good, they can really make a difference. And as your mayor I’ve had the privilege of seeing what can happen when people take control of their own lives. All age groups, regardless of creed or colour, serving a wide variety of interests – we are at our best when we work together."

John Blewitt who chairs the Malvern Hills party, said: "Being able to come together to openly discuss key political issues in a convivial space is the essence of democracy. It was a great evening for Malvern Greens and for local democracy in our town."
