OLDER people in Worcestershire and their families are being encouraged to put plans in place to make sure they get the care they need at the end of their lives.

NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and Onside Advocacy jointly run a service offering people aged 70 living in their own homes free one-to-one visits to plan care for the end of their lives.

Residents are being offered three visits by Onside staff in which they will be able to express their wishes including whether they would like to be resuscitated and which hospital they would prefer to be taken to.

GP Dr Maggie Keeble is leading the project for NHS South Worcestershire CCG and said the service could make a huge difference to an older person’s life.

“We’re aware that many older people would like to talk about their end of life care but don’t know who to talk to,” she said.

“So, if you know anyone that you think could benefit from the service, then I’d encourage you to make them aware that there’s a service available for them to communicate their end of life wishes.”
