STAFF at a Malvern supermarket pedalled 390 miles at the weekend as part of a charity fundraising venture.

The town's branch of Morrisons, on the Link retail park, was taking part in a round-the-world cycle challenge to raise money for Sue Ryder, which is the supermarket's national fundraising partner.

Workers at the Malvern branch had joined forces with colleagues across the south-west region to cover 24,902 miles, the circumference of the globe, over the bank holiday weekend.

Morrisons store manager Steve Guoite said: "Our original target was 223 miles, but people got so enthusiastic about it that we ended up covering 390 miles.

"There were staff members cycling from nine in the morning to eight at night , and the customers were excellent. They were buying raffle tickets, taking part in the name the teddy competition and just putting money in the buckets.

"We raised £1,660, which is fantastic and I just want to thank all the staff who took part in in and all our customers who contributed."

The event had a Hawaiian theme, with staff dressing appropriately and Hawaiian-style food on sale.
