A BRISK trade in vinyl and a festival atmosphere greeted Record Store Day in the heart of Great Malvern.

Music fans browsed box upon box of limited edition and exclusive releases at Carnival Records in Church Street as the hills really were alive with music on Saturday, April 19.

It was the seventh annual celebration of independent record stores in the UK, with hundreds of special vinyl and CD releases being made exclusively for the day.

There was plenty of entertainment in a packed day of live music which started at 9am with a set from duo Martin & Anna and they were followed by Stompin' on Spiders, Marina del Ray and Vaginapocalypse.

Electro-folk storytellers Harp and a Monkey travelled from Lancashire, while ex Factory Records and Cherry Red Records artist Kevin Hewick, Ledbury-based Roving Crows, Connie Gordon singing the songs of Bob Dylan and Tyler Massey also featured.

Following the event, shop owner Chris Heard said: "Thank you so much to our friends and customers and all the great musicians who travelled to our shop to give their support to Record Store Day and make it such a happy and pleasant day up here in the hills."

Record Store Day came into being in 2007 when more than 700 independent stores in the USA came together to celebrate their unique culture.
