THE central American nation of Nicaragua is the subject of a talk being given in Colwall next week.

The speaker is Miguel Dean, aged 42, who earlier this year, spent three weeks in the country, doing voluntary work for the Peace and Hope Trust.

Now Mr Dean is inviting anyone interested in finding out more about his experiences to come to a talk on Friday, November 12.

He said: "I was very much involved with doing sustainable projects of various sorts. For instance, we were planting bamboo which can be used as a building material when it grows."

He also spent some time helping build some concrete steps at a rubbish tip, running after-school clubs to allow local children to enjoy arts, music and drama, and painting and decorating a school.

"It was hard work at times, but when things are hard, they are most rewarding to achieve," he said.

Mr Dean, aged 42, is a coach and trainer specialising in working with young people with challenging behaviour. His past experiences include working on an Israeli kibbutz and being homeless in Edinburgh.

He has booked the Jean Simons room in Colwall Village hall for the talk. "It's quite small, so I'd like it if people call me in advance to let me know they are coming," he said.

He can be reached on 01684 541281. The talk is at 7pm for 7.30pm, and admission is £3, with proceeds going to the Peace and Hope Trust.
