Farmers put on alert following sheep thefts

FARMERS in the Bromyard area have been put on alert by local police after two thefts of sheep in the locality.

The first incident happened overnight between Thursday, February 9, and the next day, when six ewes were stolen from a field in Edvin Loach. The ewes had red markings on the rump.

The second theft occurred at 10pm on Sunday, February 28, when two men with a white livestock trailer were seen loading sheep from a field in the Whitbourne area. At the time, the witness thought it was the farmer and his son but the theft was reported afterwards. Around 40 sheep of mixed breeds were taken.

PC Jill Richardson said, "We don't get a lot of livestock theft in Herefordshire so it is important that we all remain vigilant. Anyone who sees any suspicious activity, particularly under the cover of darkness, should contact the police at the earliest opportunity. Speed is of the essence if we are to catch those responsible red-handed."
