ADAPTING to life without oil is the central concept of a project designed to transform the way Malvern works forever.

Transition Malvern Hills follows in the footsteps of other successful initiatives throughout the UK by attempting to cause a shift in people’s attitudes and actions.

A programme of events have been planned for November and December which aim to show people the alternatives to a dependency on dwindling oil and gas supplies.

Will Tooby, the founder of TMH, said: "The spirit of the transition concept is that it is more like a party than a protest march, and as with all parties, the more the merrier.”

The transition initiative emphasises full community involvement as the key to weaning a town off the need for oil.

The main event is an open meeting at 7pm in Priory Lodge Hall on Monday, December 1.

The evening will be an opportunity to find out more about climate change and peak oil, and to hear about some of the things already happening in and around Malvern.

A series of films will also be shown around Malvern including the Power of Community which looks at Cuba’s adjustment to the loss of its oil supply following the collapse of the Soviet Union. This will begin at Priory Lodge Hall at 7.30pm on Monday, November 24.

David Attenborough's the Truth About Climate Change will be shown at 7.30pm on Monday, December 8 at the Fold, in Bransford.

These films will be followed by a discussion of the issues raised by them.

The final event in the current series will be a Bring and Share Christmas Social at 8pm on Monday, December 15 at The Fold, in Bransford.

Those attending are invited to bring along food to share with everyone else.
